The Little Blue Crab Who Stole My Heart
Meet my newest watercolor friend — a cheerful little blue crab who practically danced onto the page the moment my brush touched the paper.
When my kids were little, our favorite beach ritual wasn’t fancy dinners or perfect sunsets… it was crab hunting at night. If you’ve ever been out on a beach with a flashlight in one hand and a plastic bucket in the other, you already know the magic.
The squeals.
The flashlight beams darting across the sand.
The quick scurry of tiny crab legs (and tiny child legs).
The kind of laughter that sticks to your heart like saltwater.
My kids are all grown now, but the memories? Oh, they’re still wide awake, just waiting for the right watercolor to pull them forward again. Painting this sweet blue crab brought it all back — their giggles, their sandy toes, how they’d look up at me like I’d given them the whole world simply by letting them stay up past bedtime.
That’s what I love about watercolor… it doesn’t just paint pictures. It paints moments. It brings back the sound of your child’s voice, the warmth of a summer night, the chapters of motherhood you didn’t realize you were writing until you turn a page and find them staring back at you.
So here he is — my little blue memory-maker.
Proof that even now, the ocean still knows how to send a love note.
Thanks for being here and creating alongside me. This little Patreon corner feels like walking the shoreline with women who get it — the nostalgia, the tenderness, the creativity, the “my kids are grown but my heart still remembers.”
And just for fun…
I guess you could say he’s quite the shell-ebrity around here. 🦀😉
If you’ve ever held onto a moment so precious that even a little watercolor crab brings it back to life… this one’s for you.
